Merlin Salon Products

Merlin products are colour coded for ease of selection
1 Code Yellow
Very Dry Hair (Natural and Chemically Altered): This hair type when styling can be difficult to manage and to create a lasting shape. An excellent shampoo to use on a regular basis, in between visits to your salon.
2 Code Orange
Dry Hair (Natural and Chemically Altered): This hair type needs a moisturizing shampoo on a regular basis but needs not to be softened as it can result in the hair being difficult to work with when styling.
3 Code Magenta
Natural Hair: The hair when wet has good protein and moisture level (we call it hair in balance.) This hair type is often referred to as great looking balanced hair and will be easy to work with when styling. It is important to keep this hair type in balance for continued ease of styling
4 Code Red
Hair Without Natural Body: This hair type often has good protein level, but is low in magnesium and often limp and can be lank (no natural lift and often flat). It can often be difficult to work with when styling and may not last. You need to use Merlin Products with this code to keep the hair in balance for a
lasting look.
5 Code Salmon
Naturally Fragile Hair: This hair type is fragile and has a low protein level and can result in the style not lasting. That also applies to chemical altered hair not holding curl for as long as expected, colour not holding well and going dull soon after being done. This hair type is often referred to as problem hair.
6 Code Purple
Chemically Altered Hair: Permanent Shapers / Waves, Coloured, high lift Coloured, and or Lightened). This hair type
is often dull, and can be rough to the touch (tangled).
Styles and future chemical services can be difficult to obtain a professional look.
7 Code Blue
Combination Hair: This is hair that has been chemically over processed using alkaline products (Permanent Shapers / Waves, Colours, high lift Colours and or lighteners) too often. This is often called double processed hair where two or more chemical products have been used without protecting or rebuilding the hair with treatments in between chemical services.
Chemically Altered Gelatinous Hair: Hair will often feel soggy when wet, will stretch and not return, and can also be transparent in appearance (SG) (Stretch Gelatinous) Chemically Altered Gelatinous hair. This is hair that has been chemically over altered. The reason for this very fragile condition is often caused by the repeated use of alkaline products (Permanent Shapers / Waves, colours, high lift Colours and or Lighteners), or leaving same on the hair for a longer period than is recommended for the hair type. This hair is often in a gelatinous condition. This is often called double processed hair where two or more chemical services have been used, and left on longer than is naturally good for the keratin protein level of the hair.
10 Code Sky
Chemically Altered High Lift Lightened Hair: Hair that has been chemically altered (HLL) (Chemically Altered High Lift Lightened hair) by the use of a High Lift Lightener
(Gel / Oil or Powdered Bleach) with added Hydrogen Peroxide. The colour code is used to identify the hair type; it can vary in condition and texture whether the cuticle is smooth or raised (an analysis check will determine which). This hair will in nearly all cases need a Merlin Central Control Treatment for balance.
